Iona is a Liturgical Church
Depending on your background, our service may come as a bit of a culture shock! Let us give you a brief introduction so you know what to expect.
Our worship service is a traditional Anglican Communion or Eucharist Service. It is a reflective and joyous service that combines readings from the Bible, a blend of hymns and modern worship songs, ancient prayer practices, and communion.
Our liturgy (which means ‘the work of the people’) is grounded in practices dating back to the early church and is a common script we use for worship. It helps keep us all on the same page, while giving us room for the Spirit. The liturgy connects the body of Christ today with the Church throughout history and around the globe, most of whom would find this form of worship familiar to their own.
Our liturgical practices are governed by the Latin phrase "Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi," which essentially means “the rule (law) of prayer is the rule of faith.” In other words, how you worship demonstrates what you believe.
Our liturgy shows what Christians have done since the beginning of the Church in Acts 2—namely, they gather for the apostles’ teaching, prayer, fellowship, and breaking bread (communion).
We look forward to welcoming you to join in our liturgy! We worship every Saturday at 4pm at 1309 Franklin St, Vancouver, WA. Please contact us if you have any questions!
Learning More
If you are interested in learning more about our liturgy, we recommend reaching out to Fr. Mike or listening to this sermon that he recently preached at a non-denominational church down the street from us in Vancouver, WA. In it he speaks about how The Jesus of the Bible is at the Center of Ancient Christian Liturgies.
